The Victoria New Balance Half Ironman

23 06 2008

Linsey Corbin, a sponsored athlete of Trigger Point Technologies, is excited to report that she won one of the largest half ironman races in Canada: the Victoria New Balance Half Ironman!

“A week ago I hopped a plane from Kansas to Vancouver Island, British Columbia to spend some time with my coach, Lance Watson.

Victoria is like Disneyland for triathletes… it has everything! I was treated to a great week on the island with swimming in Elk and Thetis lakes, cycling around town, and exploring some awesome running trails. This was the third event of the Subaru West Coast triathlon series that I have attended and race director John Bothelo has it dialed in. Besides putting on a great event, I had a great home stay with Steve Young and Vanessa Keeler. I got two great massages from Gibson Brown. I also got a brand new Subaru to drive around for the week. Lucky me!

To be honest, I wasn’t my usual self in that I wasn’t anticipating race day with much excitement. I wasn’t convinced my body was ready for a hard effort after racing Kansas 70.3 only a week earlier. Two half-ironman events back to back, could I do it?!

Once the cannon went off, I was fired up! After a few strokes into the swim a sense of relief overcame me to be racing a no-pressure and “have-fun” event. I was quickly reminded of my amateur racing days competing alongside so many amateur athletes. The New Balance Half is very much a grassroots triathlon event where the entire Canadian triathlon community comes out to participate. It was great to be passing and cheering on athletes all day long. Racing yesterday was a good reminder of why I started to race and how much fun there is to be had. A big thank you to the triathlon community for making me feel right at home!

I excited the water with a stellar swim time of 28 minutes. Thank you, Xterra Wetsuits. Coach Lance has been telling me about all this “fitness” I was going to gain from all the racing I have been doing. I didn’t believe him until yesterday! Thanks, Lance! My legs finally felt strong on the bike and I was able to put forth a solid effort coming off the bike with a 20 minute lead. Thank you, Scott Bikes, Zipp Wheels, and FSA. The run course was great taking you around Elk Lake twice on a great tree lined path. Thank you Saucony for keeping me running fast and dressed to impress! The volunteers, aid stations, and crowd support were amazing. It was great to cross the line in first place with a stellar time of 4 hours and 21 minutes! Finally, thanks Clif Bar and Base Performance for keeping me fueled and hydrated.

Two more big races to go: Lake Stevens 70.3 and Vineman 70.3; then my focus will be all about Kona!”

“My racing stampede continued this past weekend in the mid-west at the Kansas 70.3. On a day that I will remember as a “perfect Kona training day” I came third behind two of the finest women in our sport: Jo Lawn and Sam McGlone.

I arrived in Kansas with perfect timing, I just missed the tornado that had blown through the night before. Perfect! I was met at my homestay by my new favorite Kiwis: Jo Lawn and her husband Armando. Chris and I quickly became friends with them and I am already looking forward to more fun times together. A big shout out to the best home stay on the circuit: Kent and Liz Dobbins (and the rest of there family). They treated us all like royalty and we shared some good laughs together!

Race day started similar to Kona with a non-wetsuit swim, however, the aquarium landscape was replaced with a mid-western murk. The coolest part was watcing the Navy Seals parachute there way down to Clinton Lake as the national anthem played. The gun was fired, feet were kicking, arms were flying, and I ended up having a non-impressive swim. I excited transition knowing I had my work cut out for me with the leaders nearly 4 minutes up on me. Time to get riding on my stealth Scott Plasma! The bike course in Kansas was just like Kona: hot, humid, hilly, and windy. It was a great course with 3 out-and-backs that gave me lots of opportunity to see what my competition was up to. I worked hard to ride myself into the top-5 but all morning I was wishing I had my half-ironman legs with me and not my heavy yellow-brick-road legs. I did manage to enjoy all the mid-west super fans that were out on the course. I entered T-2 with two girls in sight and I was looking forward to slipping on my dancing shoes: Saucony Fastwitches! I ran my first 10k pretty well and moved myself into third place. The run course was great, and had the feel of Wildflower as it weaved its way past camp grounds and RV’s. Let me tell you, the bbq sure smelled good at mile 10! I finished my day cowboy hat in tow with a feeling of “mission accomplished.”

So, there you have it. 5th place at Ironman Arizona, 4th place at Boise 70.3, 3rd place at Kansas 70.3, 2nd place at Pucon 70.3… this can only mean that first place is just around the corner!

Thanks to all of you for keeping me moving in the right direction!”

Alan Howard, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, was first introduced to Trigger Point Technologies when Cassidy Phillips, the founder and CEO of TPT, traveled to Australia in May of 2008. After working with Cassidy, Alan discovered the benefits of the TPT tools. To read more about Alan’s experience in Australia with Cassidy read “Trigger Point Technologies fighting Cerebral Palsy in Australia.” Below is Alan’s most recent results from the use of the TPT products.

“Your products are truly amazing. I’ve been working with them daily since your visit and Steve and I devote at least 20 minutes after training to stretching with the Trigger Point Massage Ball and Footballer.

I have had a rather large callus on my right foot (which is my affected leg) just under my big toe for at least two years. It was caused by the way I walk and was extremely painful to walk on for long periods of time. Since using Trigger Point, the callus has all but disappeared and I can walk on my leg pain free! So I’d like to say thank you Cassidy. I don’t know what I did before Trigger Point.”

Big George surprises the sprinters

The big names are in action at the Dauphiné. Following the examples of Levi Leipheimer and Alejandro Valverde, George Hincapie won stage two in Vienne. Hincapie anticipated the action of the sprinters and preceded Sébastien Chavanel while Thor Hushovd finished in fifth place and kept his yellow jersey for the time trial.

It was a typical day of racing with a three men breakaway chased down by the bunch. High Road gave a hand to Crédit Agricole but its plans were totally changed when their top sprinter André Greipel had a flat tyre with 15km to go. “We were working for him for the sprint,” said Hincapie. “Until the last five kilometers, that was the plan but with three kilometres to go while riding at 70km/h, we heard from our director Allan Peiper that he was not coming back.”

It didn’t take long for the American to figure out that he had a personal card to play instead. “I was a little bit sick in the Pyrénées last week,” he recalled. “I had no power during the prologue. I felt better yesterday in the lead out for André. Today I took some risk in the last curve. I made a big effort to catch Sebastian (Lang). It worked out. I won, and it was a nice finish.”

Trigger Point Continues their quest in Australia

2 06 2008

I’ve been in Melbourne for the past few days with out Kristian our Distributor down here in AUS meeting with various shops that carry our products.

While at CBD bike shop, David the manager asked if it is at all possible to take a look at a young girl that has just gone through surgery for compartmental syndrome in the lower leg. Freddy is her name and she’s been battling this problem for quite some time. Apparently she’s still dealing with some major pain, it always disappoints me when I don’t think surgery is ultimately necessary but people are guided in that direction anyway. Long of the short I told him to ask her to come to the Regen class we were having later that night and I’d take a look.

This Re-Gen class was smaller than the last which turned out to be very beneficial for all that attended, Kristian and I were able to give more one on one attention which really resulted in more empowerment for the attendees. Each person was dealing with something different and all were fed up with the forms of treatment they had been going through. There were a few that had a mental imprint of the way the products were supposed to be used, by the end we cleared everything up fro them. It was really an aweomse class with some great results.

Now back to Freddy, she came to the class and I took a look at what was going on, she had to scars on each leg in the area of the anterior tibialis. She said that she hadn’t really found the relief she was looking for post surgery. She said once she started running she was forced to deal with relentless pain that mirrored the same pain she was dealing with before the surgery.

I asked if anyone had ever done anything to the back of her leg, in the gastroc soleus region. She said no. I then placed her leg ontop of the footballer and started the educational process…….Deep breathe, release, come up with the knee, rotate the foot in a circle and Holy Crap she says. That hurts………Unbelievable right, you see the muscles in the back of the leg connect in the bottom of the foot and the muscles in the front of the leg connect I nthe top of the foot. So if you never address the antagonist and the protagonist you may never get ride of the problem that’s causing other symptoms.

Let’s just say she couldn’t believe the difference using the footballer made, I then took her through the other area’s we treat on the Foot Dysfunction DVD, single ball, double ball and how to address the anterior tibialis……..after doing all of this with tears in her eyes she said, my legs feel better than they did before I had the surgery. We caught her on video saying a few words, check it out below. Ultimately she was amazed and is now a true believer in our methodologies and products.

I told her and everyone at the class that our products should be your first line of defense when addressing nagging muscular pain or joint dysfunction. I mean what do you have to lose, a few dollars??

We hope that with our education on our new dvd’s and our website you can understand biomechanics and how they can cause muscular and joint dysfunctions and how muscular dysfunctions can cause biomechanical and joint dysfunction. It’s a vicious cycle you see every bone has a muscle that surrounds it and every joint has a muscle and a tendon that supports it, so if our muscles get tight and loose elasticity you are going to be forced to deal with problems, that just the way the cookie crumbles!!!
