The 2009 edition of the Nautica New York City Triathlon kicked off with a 25-minute rain and thunderstorm delay, but the minor inconvenience did little to slow Aussie Greg Bennett and American Rebeccah Wasner. After riding with the pack on the bike leg, both athletes took off just after exiting T2 to win handedly.

To the surprise of few, Andy Potts was the first to exit the swim in the Hudson River, doing so in just over 12 minutes (12:14), thanks in a large part to the river’s swift current. Bennett and American Matty Reed finished the fast swim mere seconds behind Potts.

The bike leg was dominated by Pennsylvanian up-and-comer Andrew Yoder, who completed the 40K leg in 56:37 and entered T2 with an almost two-minute lead on the rest of the field. Next into transition were Bennett, Potts, Reed and Brit Stuart Hayes.

Yoder’s gap from the bike leg disappeared quickly, as Bennett surged to the front and never looked back. The Aussie’s 31:12 run was good enough for his fourth consecutive title in New York. Potts finished second, 37 seconds behind Bennett. Reed took the final podium position, 16 seconds back of Potts.

In the women’s race, three athletes exited the swim at the front, led by short-course standout Becky Lavelle. Just a few seconds behind Lavelle were Wassner and fellow-American Mary Beth Ellis.

While Ellis battled mechanical issues on the bike, Lavelle and Wassner stayed at the front and Lavelle entered T2 with a half-minute advantage. That lead quickly diminished courtesy of Wassner’s 34:36 run. Wassner broke the tape in 1:58:25, with Lavelle finishing second in 2:00:17. American Margaret Shapiro finished third in 2:03:21.

Trigger Point Athletes Score Big in Peterborough!!

6 07 2009

Trigger Point athletes Tyler Lord and Paolina Allan had great races this past weekend at the Peterborough Half Ironman!

Tyler was 3rd overall male in 4:13:54 and Paolina was the 1st place female finishing with a time of 4:23:04, Congrats!!

Below is Tyler’s race report;

Run 2P5252880

After a week of rain, and I mean constant rain, the weather was perfect for race day. Wind was coming from east to west, which is ideal for a disc. I decided to use my HED Stingers with my powertap. The day before the race I had a talk with my coach and my training partner Dave and the goal was stick the pace. Not to be stupid and go with the leaders and blow up. That was the goal.

The morning came quick and I was getting ready to start the swim. a 1km 2 loop with a beach run in the middle. My goal was to get on the front group feet and hang on. I did just that and came out of the first km in 14 minutes. Solid! Was feeling great and my Xterra Vendetta was feeling great and my shoulders were nice and loose. I came out of the 2nd lap in 28 minutes, which was awesome! Now onto the bike.

I have been working a lot on nutrition and that was the main focus for this race. I have been tweaking it for the 90 km bike ride and finally dialed it in! I was feeling awesome, best I have ever felt and came away from the 90km bike ride in 2:14, 3rd fastest bike split of the day. I averaged 280 watts, which was perfect. Since I started using Cera Sport it has really kept my energy levels up on the bike and feeling awesome off the bike. Thanks Jennifer!

The leader and I came into transition together and we were off. I took the lead and was feeling awesome. I held the lead for 12km before Bruno caught me but didn’t really pull away from me. My goal was simple, stick 6:30 miles. Nothing slower, nothing faster! Bruno got ahead of me and then Mike Hay caught me around 16km. I stayed right on his feet but didn’t want to blow up so didn’t push it. The goal for today was time not the win. As my coach put it the win will come! The leader won by 90 seconds and I came in 3rd but felt awesome.

Finishing time 4:13

Getting ready for Calgary! Off to Younique Cycles to get my bike pampered! She worked hard yesterday and love the fit Ian has got into on the bike. Also my bum feels great after a 90km bike ride on my ISM saddle.

Trigger Point and Team Timex

1 07 2009

Trigger Point if very proud of our relationship with the Timex Multisport Team.  They have seen a great season so far and have posted some big results in every distance of race imagineable.  You can keep track of the team at http://teamtimex.timexblogs.com/.

With the amount of training these folks are doing it is imperative to focus on muscle recovery and function.  We have been keeping the team stocked up with TP gear and here are few testimonials about the benefits they have seen from Rolling!!

“Trigger Point products have helped me recover from various injuries and taught me what my body needs to stay healthy and injury-free. Regularly working on areas that are not always sore or painful has been key in preventing injuries as well as keeping my muscles relaxed and refreshed. Because it’s so compact, I don’t ever travel without it!”

-    Erin Kummer (Timex Xterra athlete)

“I use Trigger Point every day, sometimes several times a day.  There is no doubt that this product is allowing me to train harder/longer than ever before without the nagging worry of injury.  After struggling with a tight lower back/hip, I now have this under control thanks to Trigger Point.   Trigger Point allows you to work problem areas yourself, without having to spend the money on massage therapy on a regular basis.  It is also super easy to use, and convenient to transport.  No excuses now!!!”

-    Janelle Morrison (Pro triathlete)

“As a Sports Medicine Physical Therapist I recommend TP products to many of my patients since I myself use them to take my training and racing to the next level”

-    Dr. Brian Schaning, PT, DPT, CSCS

“You can spend hundreds of hours training for a race but going into a race injured will have more of an effect on your performance as compared to going into a race under trained.  The Trigger Point massage ball has helped me cure my two year battle with plantar fasciitis and I now feel that I am heading into races better prepared than ever.”

-    Kyle Marcotte (6th place 2008 Ironman Canada)

Congrats to Team Timex

Keep on Rolling!!
