Here is what Phil Liggit had to say:

Stage 7: Rookie Shines During Initial Alpine Stage

What a day for young German Linus Gerdemann. This is the Tour de France and Linus has never been here before. But tonight he leads the race, holds the best young rider’s jersey (white) and has won the first Alpine stage. It is a lot to take in when you are not yet 25 years old.

There were 52 first timers in the race at the start in London and Gerdemann, a winner of only two races as a professional, was one of them. Today he joined a 15-man breakaway and finished alone in the Grand Bornand to give his T-Mobile squad an incredible boost on this race
